DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTIES
Hey guys its Voldemort or some what, the "Fortune Teller". I will be showing you how to simplify
expressions with distributive properties with 3 examples from our booklets. And those examples are:
-6+5(8-k)-8k
(Question 9 page 24 What happened to Ray Floob after he fell off Empire State building)
(4x-9)+8(2x+3)-7x
(Question 12 page 25 What should you NOT do if you want to help get rid of graffiti)
11-(3x-6)+2(4x+5)-x
(Question 13 page 25 What should you NOT do if you want to help get rid of graffiti)
Lets get on to it. First expression is -6+5(8-k)-8k. So what you want to go first is the brackets because of the order of operations, BEDMAS.
Brackets
Exponents
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction
Cause of that we have to do the multiplication in the brackets. What you want to do is you take the coefficient on the left hand side of the brackets and multiply that with the terms in your brackets. It should look something like this.
-6+5(8-k)-8k
(+5 groups of 8)
(+5 groups of -k)
-6+40-5k-8k
Now you want to put your terms in order from(coefficient)variables to the constant and the answer.
So now it should look something like this:
-5k-8k-6+40
Next step is you want to combine the like terms in your expression. It should look like this:
-12k+34
You have simplified this expression! Good for you! Can you answer the next expression? Lets see if you could do it! Next expression is (4x-9)+8(2x+3)-7x. Since there is no constant before the first pair of brackets, you automatically multiply that by positive one. SOOOOO, that basically re writing it without the brackets. It should look something like this:
(4x-9)+8(2x+3)-7x
(+1 groups of 4x)
(+1 groups -9)
(+8 groups of 2x)
(+8 groups of +3)
4x-9+16x+24-7x
Now what you want to do is put all the terms in order.
4x+16x-7x-9+24
Now you want to combine all like terms in order to simplify this expression, after this step, you are finished.
13x+15.
And that's what you are left with. So that is the simplified version of that expression. Lets do one more just to get everything cleared with. Next expression is 11-(3x-6)+2(4x+5)-x. Spot anything different?? Yup! The constant before the brackets doesn't have a digit! It's just the negative sign. But it's no problem. That would equal a -1 because there is only one negative sign.
- is the same thing as -1
+ is the same thing as +1
In order to solve this is the same thing as if it had the digit so it'll look like this:
11-(3x-6)+2(4x+5)-x
(-1 groups of 3x)
(-1 groups of -6)
(+2 groups of 4x)
(+2 groups of +5)
11-3x+6+8x+10-x
Same thing as before, now you want to put your terms in order:
-3x+8x-x+11+6+10
And now you combine all your like terms to get your simplified expression:
4x+27
That's it! You've done it! That's how you simplify expressions with distributive properties.

Welcome to my transposing scribe post.
STEP 1. so you have to cancel out the integer by doing the opposite operation and do the same on the other side.
STEP 2.there is going to be a number under the one in the question so you combine those and write the answers .
STEP 3.solve your equation.
STEP 4. for verifying you fill in the spots with "X" and put your numbers in them.

Vince's scribble post
Aye, how you doin? Good? Good! Aight so today ill be showing you a quick run through on how to solve a "two step algebra problem".
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
First step to solving a two step algebraic is to find the variable.
5 + 4n = 29
So as you can see on in the top example i have just high light the variable. Now that you'v found your variable, the next step is to go and isolate the variable to find out what the letter means.
5 + 4n - 5 = 29 - 5
4n = 24
Now that you've isolated the variable, next what you're trying to do is getting rid of the number right beside the variable, how do you do that you may ask? You are going to get the reciprocal (or the opposite of the number) in this case it is 4n, the reciprocal is 1/4, so you'll divide it on both sides of the equation.
4n = 24
4 4
n = 6
As you can see after we have divided 4n over 4 along with dividing 24 over four we end up with the 4 being eliminated thus leaving us left with n =, and 24 over 4 leaves us with 6. The variable means or is 6. don't forget to verify or check your answer!
5 + 4n = 29
5 + 4(6) = 29
29 = 29

Hi. Welcome to my scribe post about 2 step Algebra. In our previous math class Mr. Harbeck taught us how to solve 2 step problems.
The two problems I will be solving are:
3x-7+2x=9
-n+5+21n=0
Here is how you solve it:
3x-7+2x=9
5x-7+7=9+7
5x=16
5 5
x=3.2
First Step: Do Combining Like Terms by adding 3x and 2x to make it into 5x
Second Step: Re-write the problem so that the coefficient, variable, and constant goes first and the answer is last. Make sure to take away the -7 out by adding +7 which will give you 9+7=16
Third Step: After that you get 5x=16. To isolate the variable, you will need to divide 5x and 16 by 7
x=3.2
Here is how you solve the second question:
-n+5+21n=0
20n+5=0
20n+5-5+0-5
20n=-5 ÷ 5
20 20 ÷ 5
x=-¼
First Step: Combining Like Terms. Add -n (-1n) and 21n
Second Step: Re-write the question,make sure to take away the +5 by adding -5 to it.
Third Step: When you get 20n=-5, you divide that by 5/5.
x=-¼

Bonjour ladies and gentlemen! Today's daily scribe will be TWO STEPS ALGEBRA. So we will begin in 3, 2, 1...
https://tomsanimerant.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/road-to-math.jpg
Starting with the first example: 3n + 8 =20
Step 1. Remove the zero pairs. Use the opposite operation to remove zero pairs. Do the same thing to the answer using the same number you've used to remove the zero pairs.
Step 2. After you've removed the zero pairs, you are left with a co-efficient variable and an answer.
Step 3. Now uses the opposite operation using the number of the co-efficient variable. Do the same thing to the answer.
Step 4. You are now left with the answer( make sure the letter is always on the left side).
NOW FOR THE SECOND EXAMPLE:
Step 1. Do the same thing as Step 1 and Step 2.
Step 2. For the opposite operation, instead of using adding and subtracting sign, use a multiplication sign ( ). What is the opposite of division? Multiplication.
Step 3. Now, multiply the co- efficient variable to get to a zero pair. On the other side, just multiply it.
Step 4. NOW YOU ARE LEFT WITH THE ANSWER.
If my explanation is bad here is a video of a person doing a much better job than I am. :)
THANK YOU FOR LOOKING AT THIS SCRIBE!!!
PS: DO NOT FORGET TO VERIFY YOUR ANSWER CAUSE IF YOU DO NOT VERIFY MR. HARBECK WILL LOOK FOR YOU AND HE WILL FIND YOU.
THANK YOU ;)

Hey fellow scribers! Today I will be teaching you how to do Two Step Algebra with division. I will give you two examples.
First Example:
Now What you want to do first is you want to get rid of your constant with the opposite order of operations. So now you are left with this:
Now you are left with your coefficient variable and your answer. So you are probably left with something like this:
Next thing you want to do is you want to take out your coefficient and isolate the variable. So now what you want to do is you solve this like a one step algebraic equation. Which is using the opposite order of operations and canceling it out. Just like this:
Now you are left with your answer which is x = 8. Good job! You did it! You are the real MVP at math am I right?? Lets see if you are actually the real MVP. I challenge you to do one more question to prove me that you are the real MVP.
Second Example:
First thing you do is you take out the constant with the opposite order of operations. Since its -1, you want to do +1. And since you did it to one side, you want to balance it on the other side with a +1 too. It should be looking something like this:
Now, you have taken out the constant and you have balanced out your equation. Next thing you want to do is you want to isolate the variable. Solve this like a one step equation. Use the opposite order of operation to isolate the variable. It should look something like this:
Now that you have isolated your variable, you got to your answer! Eyyyyyyy! You did it! You proved yourself, you are the true MVP! Good job!

Hi hi. Welcome to my scribe post about 2 step algebra. In our last class Mr. Harbeck taught us how to solve 2 step problems.
Two of the problems that I'm going to solve are:
-69 = 7v - 6
-5u + 12 = -48
Here's how you solve it:
-69 = 7v - 6
1. You rewrite the question so that the coefficient, variable, and constant is on the left side while the answer is on the right.
2. To isolate the variable you first have to take away your constant by adding 6 to both sides of the equal sign.
3. After you add 6 you now have 7v = -63. To isolate the variable, you would have to divide 7 to both sides.
4. Once you have divided 7v and -63, v = -63
This is how you solve the second question:
-5u + 12 = -48
1. If you want to isolate the variable, you have to get rid of your constant. To do that you have to subtract 12 from +12 and subtract 12 from -48.
2. After that, what you have left is -5u = -60. To isolate the variable you would have to divide -5 to both sides of the equal sign.
3. Once you've divided -5 to -5u and -60, u = 12.
REMEMBER TO VERIFY
